Standing Field Rules

Revised January, 2007

Model operations must be in accordance with AMA safety codes.  In addition, the following standing rules are in effect at the field By HAFS, and must be adhered to by all the members:

1.         An identification flag along with the channel number clearly identified on the transmitter antenna is mandatory.

2.         Without exception, no transmitter may be turned on until both your current AMA card and your HAFS membership card are placed on the frequency board with your HAFS membership card facing forward, and you have removed the frequency pin from the board and attached it to your antenna.

3.         At the completion of each flight, the transmitter antenna must be collapsed, the transmitter must be turned off and placed on the shelf in the impound area.  You must also remove your AMA card and membership card and return your frequency pin to the frequency board.

4.         Mufflers are required on all engines of .10 displacement or larger.  Please note that engines might be subjected to db testing.  The parameters for db testing have not yet been determined.  If and when they are, these flight rules will be updated and all  members will be notified.

5.         All aircraft must be rotary or fixed wing and must be radio controlled. 3D flying (hovering, torque rolls, etc.) is permitted as long as it does not interfere with other pilots flying conventional aircraft in a conventional manner. All aerial maneuvers (rolls, spins, loops etc), including 3D maneuvers, must be performed from the centerline of the runway towards the far edge of the runway. No hovering or any other 3D or aerobatic maneuver may be done from the runway centerline in towards the pit area which includes the taxiway and also directly in front of or to the side of any another pilot standing at a pilot station as this is a serious distraction and safety hazard. This extends from where that pilot is standing, 25 feet on either side of that pilot and straight out to the far edge of the runway. When a pilot calls for a landing, it should be a simple matter for those flying 3D to move out of the landing path if you are directly over the centerline. If we all act as our own safety officers, we can all enjoy our hobby in our many varied ways at the same time. Common sense and courtesy is expected from all members.

6.         All aircraft must be started North of the bushes, between the spectator line and the bush line, but not closer than 20 feet from the spectator line.  This area will be considered the pit area.  All aircraft must be restrained when starting, with no individuals standing in front of, or within the arc of the propeller.  No taxiing from the pit area to the pilot line.  Carry or push your plane to the pilot line.

7.         Pilots must stand on the pilot line, behind the pilot fence when the aircraft is taxiing or flying.  Exception:  Electric powered aircraft may be hand launched from the taxi area.  The area from the white flight line to the pilot fence is designated the taxi area.  The flight line extends indefinitely East and West from State Farm Road to Sycamore Drive.  No flying is permitted over, and/or above, the taxi area.  Moreover, no flying is permitted across State Farm Road, or across Sycamore Drive, or beyond the tree line that extends along the Southern limit of our fly-over area.

8.         Takeoffs and landings must be made on the runway centerline with the prevailing flight pattern.  Emergency landings may be made against the flight pattern  as long as the emergency is announced to the other pilots.  All landing aircraft, emergency or no, have the right of way.

9.         Guests of HAFS Club members may participate in flying activities.  Three guest appearances are permitted, provided the guest is an AMA member and the HAFS member is accompanying the guest.  This privilege does not extend to members who have not renewed their membership from the prior year.

10.       Spectators must remain behind the cable at the rear of the pit area.

11.       No alcoholic beverages are permitted at the flying field.

12.       Any posted curfew hours must be observed.  Moreover, no flying is permitted during field maintenance.

13.       All HAFS members are responsible for removing their own trash.  Trash includes cigarette butts and pet litter.

14.       Please Note:  The flying field will be closed to all flying when the Farm Show requests the use of the West end of HAFS property for overflow parking.
